Repair process

The steps we follow during the repair process

Twenty-five steps from your first estimate to the day you drive away. With your permission, we update you along the way, and if anything changes the completion date we originally gave you, we let you know and tell you why.

Steps 1-7

Estimate and approvals

  1. Inspect & Prepare Estimate

Our Estimator will inspect your vehicle and begin to document the damage caused by the collision in the form of an estimate. In some cases you may already have a preliminary estimate of this damage prepared by your insurance company. In any event, this step must be accomplished prior to beginning the repair process.

  2. Owner Signs Repair Authorization

Before any work can begin, you must first sign a repair authorization allowing us to repair your vehicle. At this time it is not unusual for our Estimator to request another signature in advance to cover any additional damage that may be found once the repair is underway.

  3. Insurance Approval

The insurance company that is involved must also approve the repair estimate before we can begin work.

  4. Parts Ordered Electronically

Upon receiving approvals from you and the insurance company, we will begin the process of locating and ordering the parts necessary to repair your vehicle

  5. Parts Received

Once all of the parts are received and accounted for, we can schedule your vehicle for repair.

  6. Estimated Completion Date Given

At this time we will provide you with an Estimated Completion Date. It is important to understand that certain types of damage become apparent only after your vehicle has been disassembled. Therefore, your vehicle's completion date may need to be revised.

  7. Vehicle Scheduled For Repairs

We can now contact you to schedule a convenient time for your vehicle to be repaired. In some cases your vehicle may already be at our Repair Center, in which case it will be available for immediate repair.

Steps 8-12

Teardown and supplements

  1. Vehicle Disassembled and Re-inspected

As your vehicle's outer panels are removed and the physical structure of the vehicle is revealed, often additional or "hidden damage" is discovered. This additional damage is difficult to diagnose at the time of the original estimate as it cannot be seen or predicted until we perform this thorough inspection. Any additional damage may alter your vehicle's completion date.

  2. Supplement Damage Report Written (If Necessary)

This report is written to cover any additional or "hidden" damage that may be discovered once your vehicle's outer panels are removed and the physical structure of your vehicle is revealed. This is referred to as Supplement Damage in insurance terms.

  3. Supplement Approved By The Insurance Company

The insurance company must authorize this additional damage before we can continue the repair.

  4. Additional Parts Ordered (If Necessary)

Should we find additional damage, we will need to repeat steps 2, 3, & 4. For this reason, our Estimator may have asked you to sign an authorization document in advance to cover these additional repairs. Please note that this additional damage may alter your vehicle's completion date.

  5. Customer Updated

With your permission we will contact you and update you on the progress of your vehicle's repair at this point. Should anything have affected the completion date we originally gave you, we will let you know now and tell you why.

Steps 13-18

Structure and body

  1. Vehicle Set On Unibody Equipment (If Necessary)

Your vehicle was manufactured in compliance with tight structural standards. Exact location and fit of integral parts are critical to the operation and appearance of your vehicle. We measure your vehicle against published factory specifications and return your vehicle to within the manufacturer's prescribed tolerances to ensure proper fit of body and structural parts.

  2. Structural & Body Repairs

Our Repair Technicians will now undertake structural and body repairs.

  3. New Body Panels Are Installed & Checked For Proper Fit

All collision-related repairs require some degree of cosmetic repair and often require replacement of factory panels. We will check for proper fit here and ensure your vehicle's parts look, fit and align the way they should.

  4. Corrosion Protection Reapplied To Repaired Areas

Most of today's vehicles incorporate some form of corrosion protection applied by the original manufacturer. We will reapply this protection to ensure that your vehicle conforms to the original manufacturer's standards.

  5. All Metal Work Performed & Tests Are Conducted

It is at this point in the repair that we begin to check systems for proper functioning and perform quality control systems for the repair work. An example of a systems check would be the resetting of your safety systems, involving your passive restraint or air bag system.

  6. Customer Updated

Once again with your permission we will be contacting you to update you on the progress of your vehicle's repair. Should anything have affected the completion date we originally gave you, we will let you know now and tell you why.

Steps 19-22

Paint and refinish

  1. Vehicle Prepped, Primed and Blocked

Our technicians will begin the refinish process by applying a primer. A surface filler is sprayed on to ensure a quality, uniform and smooth surface. Block sanding is the method of further preparing the surface of your vehicle for paint.

  2. Vehicle Is Masked, Taped & Placed In Paint Booth

To ensure that the highest quality standards are met, we carefully mask your vehicle to protect it from overspray during the refinish process. Only the area that needs to be refinished is left uncovered. We then place your vehicle in a controlled atmosphere called a paint booth, where paint material is applied.

  3. Vehicle Is Chemically Cleaned & Tacked

This process removes all outside contaminants that may have been deposited on your vehicle during the repair process. Tacking the vehicle then removes any dust particle that may remain.

  4. Vehicle Undergoes Multi-Step Refinishing Process

Most of today's vehicles are coated with what is known as a basecoat/clearcoat refinish system. Sometimes a single-stage system is used. In any event, all systems involve several application steps to ensure a quality finish. We will only use refinish products that meet or exceed the original manufacturer's specifications.

Steps 23-25

Finish and delivery

  1. Reassembly / Wheel Alignment / Air Conditioning / Detailing

Once your vehicle has gone through the refinish process we then reattach the other parts such as mirrors, moldings, and other hardware. Should your repair require a wheel alignment or services such as air conditioning repair, we will perform them at this time. Your car will undergo a thorough cleaning prior to being returned to you.

  2. Final Inspection & Test Drive

A final inspection of your vehicle will be performed to ensure it meets our standards. After that your vehicle will be driven to make sure it is ready for the road.

  3. Confirmed Delivery Date Given

We will contact you and make arrangements to get you back in your vehicle at your earliest and most convenient time.

Our story

A Full Service Collision Center serving Middle Georgia since 2007

Eric Chandler, the owner who brought Chandler Collision Center to Warner Robins, learned the trade the hard way. For years he repaired severely damaged cars and trucks that were unlucky enough to be caught in hailstorms, following the storms all over the United States.

That experience put him in an ideal position to open his own shop on Radio Loop in 2007. Today we are a full service auto body repair shop dedicated to repairing automobiles to manufacturer specifications and exceeding customer expectations, with state of the art equipment and highly-trained technicians who stay up on the latest repair practices.

We believe quality should come before cost, and as a matter of policy we do not cut corners. It is an important part of protecting the value of your vehicle.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Still unsure about something? Call us on (478) 328-0370.

What should I do to be prepared for an accident should it occur?

Keep an emergency kit in your car: a disposable camera, cell phone, pen & paper will be needed at the scene.

What should I do if I am involved in an accident?

First, exchange information with everyone involved: name, address, phone numbers, insurance information, driver's license numbers and license plate numbers. Second, get a police report. Third, know your insurance policy: speak with your agent ASAP. And last, select a repair facility.

Do I have to use the insurance company's recommended repair facility?

Absolutely not. Under Georgia law, you have the right to have your vehicle repaired where ever you wish. Do not let an insurance company tell you otherwise.

Can an insurance company make me take my car to a certain shop?

No, you have the right to choose the repair facility. Most insurance companies want your vehicle properly repaired and they want you to be satisfied. However, there are insurance companies who will direct you to their own program shop primarily to reduce their expense. We believe quality should come before cost and as a matter of policy we do not cut corners. This is an important step in protecting the value of your vehicle.

Who can authorize repairs to my vehicle?

Only you can authorize repair work on your vehicle. We understand and respect this. Whether minor or extensive, our collision center will make sure your vehicle is assessed and estimated correctly, and repairs done to manufacturer's specifications.

Why should I insist on all OEM parts?

Aftermarket or salvage parts often do not meet OEM standards for fit, finish, corrosion protection, construction or safety. There is no way to alert you of recall or defective parts from the aftermarket manufacturer. We believe the best repair result comes from using original equipment parts. If you have the choice, YES, insist on original parts.

Will my paint match?

Restoring your vehicle with the proper paint match is one of the most important parts of the repair. A poor paint match can greatly affect the value of your vehicle. With over 35 years of combined experience, our paint department's color match ability is second to none!

How long should the repairs take?

The repair process only begins after the administrative process is completed. During the administrative process, the insurance company must establish fault and verify coverage. We will then begin the inspection to determine repair cost. The insurance company will check the value of the vehicle against the repair cost estimate and make a claims decision: is the vehicle repairable, or is it a total loss?

If repairable, we will complete the disassembly and identify all the damage. We then contact the insurance company for another inspection and proceed with the parts order. Once parts have arrived (typically 2-4 days) we will continue the repair process. The body & frame/unibody repairs will be completed and the vehicle is sent to the paint shop. After paint, all painted panels are buffed & polished to insure the best possible match. The vehicle is assembled & cleaned up for a review by our quality control manager.

This process usually takes 1 working day for every 4 labor hours of repair. This is the standard used to calculate rental vehicle authorization and payment reimbursement. It is worth noting that the administrative process can take longer than 1 week in some cases. Stay involved with your claim. Know the insurance company's claim representative by name and have their phone number.

“During my search for an auto body repair shop, I read many reviews and took a chance on Chandler Collision. I can now validate their great reviews! Staff was friendly, knowledgeable, fair and delivered on service. I highly recommend Chandler Collision!”

“Greta customer service and care. They were very detailed about the process of my car repairs and ensuring we understood completely as this was our first experience. The car was also returned within the timeframe they promised. I highly recommend them for all and future repairs.”
Mara Pacheco on Google
“This was the second time using the services and skill of the workers. Another perfect outcome. My truck looks fantastic.”
Joseph Godfrey on Google

“They made the process so easy. I dropped my van off to be fixed after an accident and I also had them repair a dent on the side caused from an earlier incident. They drove me to not one, but two enterprises for my rental car because I had been told to go to the wrong one originally by my insurance company. The staff was super friendly. The repairs didn’t take long and they were very transparent about pricing and their process. When I picked it up, they had also vacuumed and wiped the inside down for me as well, leaving me with a nice, fixed, dent-free, CLEAN vehicle (which it’s hardly ever clean with 5 kids in the back on a regular basis).

Thank you for everything!! I appreciate you guys!”
